Can you explain Sanvik Coromant's Machine Tool Solutions and the significance it has in modern manufacturing? I've been working with Sanvik Coromant now for 24 years and the last couple of years working with the Machine Tool Solutions team has been leading that and putting it together has been a fantastic challenge but really really rewarding. Machine Tool Solutions is about working together on machine investment with putting the correct tools with the machines to deliver a solution to the customer so the clue is in the name. We've got a rich history of working within the engineering environment working with machine tool manufacturers for over 40 years so we've got a huge amount of experience and build good relationships up in them times. Yeah, of course there are many cutting tool suppliers in the market today and they've all got their place, they've all got good products otherwise they wouldn't be there. But I think what sets us apart is how we combine our people with the tools, the services we offer, the digital solutions, software. We put all that together in a package to deliver profitable solutions to our customers to make them more profitable, to deliver investment packages in a much more sustainable way as well because taking sustainability as an example, you know, our digital tools help to make customers more efficient and of course that leads to a more profitable organisation. I'm Matt Hutton and I work for the MTS team in Sandvik Coromon. MTS is Machine Tool Solutions and what we do is typically working with our machine tool partners to deliver successful tooling outcomes for projects like turnkey projects where an end customer may want a new machine along with the tooling package. This might be an existing component and the customer is looking for new innovative ways to machine the component or it could also be a completely new component and the customer may not have the in-house resources or time to tackle it themselves. So we work with the machine tool partners to deliver the best possible tooling solutions. We use the principles of right first time as well. So that will ultimately minimise the customers payback time on the machine investment and the tooling. And an option for our customer is to use the Productivity Centre here in Hales Owen. This might be if machine deliveries are running late or if they actually just need to buy into the tooling solution that we've proposed if they want to see it in action. So we can use the machines here in Hales Owen just to do proof of concept work and actually machine their components on our machines. So when investing you always require a strategy. So why is it so important to get it right from the start? A new machine is a massive investment for a customer, probably the single biggest investment they're going to make in a buying cycle. So it's super important that we get it right from the start because otherwise it takes much longer to pay that machine back. So typically what we see within industry today is that there's a lot of focus on price in the beginning of the cost, the cost of both tools and machines and things like that. But by not focusing on the planning and making sure that we get the right solution, what happens is you end up firefighting when the machine is delivered. You don't always have the correct tools in there. You don't have the machine programmed. You don't have the models maybe that you need. And that then leads to a slower runoff time. It takes much longer to run the machine off and therefore it's less efficient and it takes longer to pay back the machine. You end up with a cycle time maybe that's not super sort of optimized. What we like to do is to collaborate with all parties right at the beginning and make sure that we plan everything. In the planning stage, it's much easier to take those decisions about how you're going to manufacture the component. You can change the way you want to do it. And so therefore, if you do that right at the beginning, when the machine is delivered, you're ready to hit the ground running from day one. So the tools are all on site. We can get going. We can, the programs are ready. The machine starts to pay back from day one. And of course, all that leads to a much faster payback on the machine. But it's really important to collaborate with both the machine tool manufacturer, the end user customer. And if you combine that with ourselves and we work together, it's, that's what we call right from the start. Very often, the focus in the beginning is on price and cost. And of course, that is important. You know, cost is an issue. But of course, by doing that, if you only focus on price, it can lead to problems down the line. And that, that leads to problems in the runoff. And then that machine's not being utilised correctly along the line. But by working together and collaborating with all parties, with the machine tool manufacturer, with the fixturing people, with the end user customer, and that's really important to involve everybody and ourselves, we deliver a solution right from the beginning. We put the planning in at the beginning. We then, when the machine's delivered, everything's in place to start delivering from day one. And of course, that is fully optimised solution. That's what it's all about. Collaboration. And that's going to deliver optimised solution right from the start. What are the benefits of a strategic investment? Well, when customers are thinking of buying a new machine, we just talked about it's right from the start. That's what we want. We want to get it right from the start. But that's, that's in order to maximise the return on investment. And the way we do that is, as I said before, the planning upfront, delivering the solution, and that leads to faster payback ultimately. You know, much faster payback, up to two years quicker than you would normally do. And we work together with our customers to demonstrate this. You know, it's all about the efficiency of the, of the solution and maximising the potential of that machine tool. So, day to day, I will get perhaps an enquiry from a customer or machine tool manufacturer with a component. And we'll look at a solution for that component to suit the machine, or perhaps look at the component and suggest the platform that might be best considering the application. And then we'll look at the tools then to suit and deliver a solution complete from insert all the way to spindle backend. And include everything in between cutting data, cycle times and time study. Ultimately, it's helping the customer long term. Obviously, when the machine goes into the factory, then they've got a new process, a new tooling, a new solution that can just work right from the start. Just goes, start from day one, it's already working. We wouldn't put something forward that we're not confident in or comfortable with leaving with a customer. Can you highlight the importance of digital solutions? Samvik's well known for our tooling solutions. But just recently, and in the last few years, we started to deliver more and more digital solutions. And that's not just digital tools, that can be software and services that are digital. And all this helps to deliver a better solution to the customer. So things like Silent Tools Plus Bars, Driven Tool Plus, where they're monitoring the performance of the tool at the cutting edge. And feeding back to the machine. This all helps customers to be more efficient. We also then we're looking at software that we use and calculators. So we use those to help customers to understand more about the business side of what we're trying to offer. But we talk about then tool models and things like that. So we've got Coriplus Tool Library where we can deliver models straight to the CAM systems. And of course, when you mentioned CAM systems, that's again, something we utilize to help to deliver better performance on machine tools for our customers. So we even got Coromant Capto, which has been around since 1987. And it's a fantastic solution to deliver quick change solutions to customers. And we talk about that and we talk about how that's going to pay back your machine quicker by not just looking at the cutting time, but actually the downtime on your machine and making you more efficient. In your role, what is it that you feel like you do differently? What's your USP? I would say it's combining everything that we have, both the people, the people at the edge, ultimately the people at the organization. It's all right having great tools and great services and things like that if you don't have the right people. And I've been fortunate to build a great team of people with me. We all look out for each other. We all look on each other's backs, you know, and that's really important in what we do, because it's a minefield out there. It's really difficult business environment at the moment, but we're there to, I think we deliver every single time. In the experience I've got in the last 20 odd years, there's not a single time when we haven't delivered a fantastic project for customers. And I think that's where we differ. You know, we're there in the muck and bullets to work with customers right from the start, right through to the part being on the floor. And we don't leave that. We're there all the way through. And I think we've built our reputation on that because, and that leads to a lot of trust. You know, when you've got the trust, you know, that's when you can work together really, really closely. And I think we see that with the machine tool manufacturers, but also with our customers. So right from the start, it's not just a good idea. It's good business.
